Sonic Sietch Update | March 2012

The first two months of 2012 have been non-stop for me. I have been involved in a lot of live work (with Stayte) but have still managed an exciting mix of mastering, remixing and recording in the Sonic Sietch.

I always tend to have a few projects on the go and this month I was able to complete two of them. First up was the mastering of the new Invasives 7″. This band features some old friends who are dedicated to producing uncompromising punk rock. This EP is no exception – it features two blistering tracks from the Vancouver three piece – you can download it for free here.

Next up was a remix for Mark Lassiter. I have collaborated with Mark on several tracks over the years and decided to take this one in a slightly different direction.

While I haven’t added much new gear/software lately, I processed some of the elements through newer plug-ins by Twisted Tools, Sugar Bytes and Rob Papen. Clocking in at almost seven minutes, it is one of the lengthiest remixes I have ever produced.

Next up is the new Stayte record. In early February, we entered Bear Studios in Vancouver, BC for Part 1 of drum tracking for the new album. Here is a clip of Byron working his magic:

Stayte performs live in Vancouver next week (March 9) and then we return to the studio to finish bass tracking, vocals and start mixing.

Game Audio Demo Reel II • Dead Rising 2 Trailer

Being a long-time fan of Capcom, I took a trailer from one of their recent games and tried my hand at creating an alternative audio track with my own original sound design.

The music and rhythmic elements were composed using several different soft synths with a few select plug-ins and couple of different controllers including an iPad. I recorded the foley on an iPhone (including the zombie sounds, which were performed masterfully by my 14-month-old daughter). I then processed, edited and mixed the different assets down to a final 2-track mix using Cubase.
